ABOUT THE JOB OPPORTUNITY
Tandy is seeking a Designer who will be responsible for thecoordination, preparation of sketches/spec packages, and designspecifications for the development of specified productcategories (Women's Belts.) Participates and contributes topreparation of required product for presentations with keyretailers. Maintains time and action calendar for productdevelopment as designated on PLM calendar. Maintains allrecords and files on the server for ease of access by themerchandise department. Develops concepts on product and merchandising strategies by understanding the marketplace andcurrent trends while delivering price/value in product design.Responsible for inspecting samples of new products; designingnew products; and following global fashion trends and designtechniques. Uses consumer research, focus group findings, brandprofiles in addition to trend influence to inject into thedesign process.

JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
Candidate must have a AA, BA, BFA or equivalent experiencerelated to product planning and assortment, development, pricepoint, design or marketing of manufactured consumer products,preferable in apparel accessories industry. Technical knowledgeas it relates to raw materials and finished goodsmanufacturing. Be multi-tasked and work independently withminimal supervision. Essential Job Functions:
This position will be responsible for coordination, preparing sketches/spec packages, and design specifications of the development of products with design team. Collaborate with the Design team in researching, designing and developing product by category from ideation through execution. Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to be multi-tasked, have a demonstrated sense of urgency, ability to meet multiple deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision. Team player with proven organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to meet Time and Action Calendar time lines. Experienced in communication with overseas vendors and factories. Proficient in Photoshop/Illustrator, basic computer design system skills, Outlook, Excel and Word. Inspire Industry Express Your Creativity Spread Holiday Cheer

Calling student designers to:
Design a white on white creation.
Transform recycled materials into magic.
Assemble it so it can be displayed on a mannequin or form.
Ship to Cipriani Wall Street for the December PAVE Gala, an annual fundraiser that attracts
hundreds of industry luminaries.

This year, students have the opportunity to sparkle and shine before industry
luminaries by participating in "The White Wonders Holiday Exhibition" for
display at the 2011 PAVE Gala in New York. The exhibition will
feature mannequins in full garments and accessories presenting a white wonder
inspiration from a recent Alexander McQueen exhibition at the MET.

For non-classroom projects, consider having students create an accessory. Think
outside the box and create a fabulous piece of eyewear, footwear, necklace or
cuff. Accessories may be produced singularly or in pairs.
All entries must be constructed of white recycled materials.

El Centro College is hosting the screening of DRESSED, which chronicles Nary’s own struggle from homelessness to the runway, because his personal story reflects many El Centro fashion design and fashion marketing students who, like Nary, come from racially diverse heritages and economically challenged backgrounds, yet somehow manage to succeed in the incredibly competitive fashion industry. Invited by Wade Hyde, faculty of El Centro College, “I wanted to make sure North Texas fashion students were aware that El Centro College is hosting the regional premiere screening of the documentary film DRESSED at the Texas Theatre in Dallas this Friday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m”.

DRESSED tells the compelling “rags to runways” saga of hot, new fashion designer Nary Manivong, who was homeless at age 14 but managed to somehow move to New York and eventually show his line during New York Fashion Week. Nary and his new NAHM design partner Ally Hilfiger (Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter) just got great reviews a few weeks ago at New York’s Fall Fashion Week. Both Nary and Ally will be in town for the DRESSED screening event, which is open to the public. The IFTF ReMix International Design Competitions were created in order to encourage, inspire and support young designers as they develop and explore their relationship with fur, as well as to give them an opportunity to showcase their innovative fur designs to an international audience.

As a nod to the eco-friendly and “green” nature of fur as a design material for high fashion, IFTF will be adding the “Pimp My Coat’ category once again to our annual 2012 IFTF REMIX International Design Competition. The ‘Pimp My Coat’ category is a wonderful category for you to encourage your students to expand their imaginations, trigger their ingenuity, and cultivate an aptitude for recycling.

The three categories, all of which your students are eligible for, that the 2012 IFTF ReMix International Design Competition is comprised of are as follows:

Fur Information Council of America is pleased to announce the 11th Annual IFTF ReMix International Student Fur Design Competition, and we invite your students to participate in this exciting event. Last year’s contest saw close to 60 entries from 12 different schools around the country, and we anticipate this year to be even bigger!

This competition offers your students and your school:
 Worldwide exposure and a chance to have your students’ designs exhibited at MiFur the prestigious international fur fashion trade show held in Milan, Italy.
 The chance to win generous cash prizes
 The chance to receive paid travel to Milan for MiFur
 Exposure in leading international fashion magazines

Origin Assured Award
Origin Assured, OA™ is the category created for designers submitting pieces in which 100% of the fur used within the garment must be made up of OA™ approved fur. It will be necessary to provide evidence clearly showing that the fur is OA™. (E.g. a statement to this effect on the suppliers company headed paper).

‘Pimp My Coat’
For REMIX 2012, IFTF we are continuing with the award category ‘Pimp My Coat’, devised by the Young Fur Trader’s Committee [YFTC]. This newly created category provides yet another opportunity for designers to be recognized internationally for their designs.

The ‘Pimp My Coat’ award is open to all students. Designers entering the REMIX International Designer and Origin Assured Award can also enter the ‘Pimp My Coat’ category.

Attached is a photograph of a vintage coat as a design template. To take part in this category, your student designer(s) need to complete the entry form and send a color sketch and a short description of the processes and rationale behind their redesign.

The ‘Pimp My Coat’ winner will be selected by the International jury on the basis of creativity, innovation and rationale and will be announced in January with the finalists of the other design categories.

The ‘Pimp My Coat’ winner will be gifted with their design, which will be manufactured from a vintage garment. The winning designer will be invited to attend the finale of REMIX in Milan to see their wining garment previewed on the runway. Their garment will also be displayed in a prominent position alongside International Designer Award and Origin Assured Winners during MIFUR.

Neil Marek in the Little Black Dress Contest

On May 10, Senior student Neil Marek's black dress was recognized in the Neal Hamil Modeling Agency’s “The Little Black Dress Contest”. Neil received 2nd Place with a scholarship of $1,500. The contest, in sartorial spirit, challenged fashion design students from Texas to design their own take on “The Little Black Dress”. Dresses were collected on March 2 at FGI Houston Career Day and were presented in a fashion show to a panel of celebrity judges. The top ten finalists were videoed during the event and footage played at a fundraising reception at the House of Blues in Downtown Houston. As a co-sponsor of TOMS shoe project, CVAD and the Fashion Design program supported a competition for design of TOMS shoes. TOMS shoe project created by Marian O'Rourke-Kaplan, each student was given one TOMS classic shoe to redesign as they saw fit. 39 shoe designs from Junior and Sophomore students were juried by the Fashion Design faculty members on April 7. Cash prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Design winners were invited to attend Private reception for Blake Mycoskie at Golden Eagle Suit of Union on April 13. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Each summer, Coach offers a paid Internship
Program in our New York City corporate headquarters. The program
provides interns the opportunity to develop critical skill sets
and gain hands-on experience in a fast paced environment while
contributing to the performance of a high performing luxury
accessories brand.

We will be offering internships in summer 2011 from June through
August for current Bachelor's Degree students across a variety of
functions.

Internships consist of day-to-day work within the intern’s
specific department, as well as learning sessions with top
executives across the organization. Each intern works closely
with a mentor who gives guidance and enhances the learning
experience through feedback and coaching, and interns also attend
social events where they have the opportunity to network with
other interns and Coach employees.

WHAT YOU WILL DO...
You will partner with the design team to learn all aspects of the
design process, including assistance with design cards,
presentation boards, meeting preparation, and sample management.
You will be a part of a dynamic, creative environment where you
will collaborate with talented designers as well as partners in
the business. You will have ownership over:

* Maintaining and tracking designs in our Product Lifecycle
Management system
* Creating design flats and renderings using Adobe Illustrator
* Partnering with produce development in tracking samples
* Coordinating raw materials (leather, fabric, hardware) for
sample development
* Completing hardware cards and color palettes for the design
review process
* Organizing the design room and boards for presentation

QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED...
* Candidates should be pursuing or recent graduates of a
fashion/accessories design degree
* Prior brand related internship experience
* Advanced proficiency and experience using Adobe Illustrator
and Photoshop.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the
ability to interact with a diverse group at all levels
* Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
and follow-through
* Proven ability to sketch and spec
* Ability to work full-time, five days a week

A Design Competition

Young Designer Showcase is a design competition that will showcase the city’s many emerging designers. Those F2s that enter will have the opportunity to display their designs to fashion industry professionals and consumers. Winners of the competition will receive scholarships worth $3,000, $1,000, and $500, which can be used toward school expenses or production costs.

Participants are required to produce one design presentation board and one essay. If chosen as a finalist, participants must produce 3-5 complete looks.

Design Solutions is known all over the world for their custom designed installations. Their creations range for holiday and seasonal displays, to designing and creating displays for the Olympics. These masterpieces are displayed at places such as, The Rockefeller Center, Bellagio in Las Vegas, Fashion Show Mall also located in Las Vegas, MGM Grand in Detroit, and in many other plazas, malls, and corporate headquarters.

Stephen Stefanou, the president and design director of Design Solutions, is looking for interns to help him put together his masterpieces. Starting around the week of October 28th for 3 weeks, Stephen will need 8-10 interns to work from 9am-9pm. They will be assisting Stephen, helping him with tasks such as cutting paper, gluing pieces together, assembling pieces…etc. These interns are free to come and go, depending on their school schedules and work schedules, and Design Solutions will work with the interns’ schedules to make sure they will be able to participate in this awesome experience. The interns will be provided snacks, and meals depending on the hours they volunteer with Stephen. The attire for the interns will be casual/comfortable, seeing as they will be assisting Stephen for several hours, and will be involved in creating the installations; jeans, a simple t-shirt, and comfortable shoes would be fine for them to wear.

On August 26 , Senior students Mayra Alcantar, Courtney Powers, Jordan Wiehle and 2010 graduate Jonathan Aparicio were given the honor of participating in Kidney Texas, Inc kidneytexas.org).
